The Iraqi Government

The political program of the Iraqi government which was announced on the 22nd of May, 2006 started after Mr. Noori Al - Maliky assumed the office of prime minister. The program includes 33 items, the most important of which is the forming of the National Unity Government according to participation standards, electoral entitlements and requirements of national interest as dictated by the constitution.

The following are the important items of the Iraqi Government’s Political Program:

  • Forming of the National Unity Government according to participation criteria, electoral entitlements and requirements of national interest as dictated by the constitution.
  • Creating a comprehensive development plan for re-building and reconstruction, with due consideration to the poverty-stricken areas as a consequence of the ex-regime’s tyrannical policies.
  • Activating reconstruction process with priority to the damaged areas.
  • Expeditious rehabilitation of the electricity sector.
  • Organizing the oil sectors’ management by enacting a law for this purpose which ensures the regions’ rights.
  • Encouraging investment and attracting foreign and national capitals which contribute to development and construction.
  • Addressing the agricultural and industrial sectors.
  • Establishing a plan to control expenditure, eradicate financial and administrative corruption and activating the constitution’s articles.


The new government acquired by the Iraqi Parliament’s approval consists of 37 ministers being:

• Minister of Industry: Fawzy Hariri
