Kurdistan Regional Government

Kurdistan Regional Government holds executive power within the Region of Kurdistan. This has been acknowledged by the Region's Constitution. Mr. Nigervan Barazani presides over the current Government since 7th of May, 2006.

The Regional Government comprises allying of several political parties representing several ethnic origins, e.g. Kurds, Arabs, Assyrians, Turkoman and Izeedis, all of which coexist peacefully. The ruling Coalition includes Kurdistan Democratic Party, Kurdistan National Union, Kurdistan Drudges Union, Kurdistan Islamic Union Party, Socialist Union, Communist Party, Turkoman Islamic Group Party as well as Assyrian, Turkoman and Izeedi political parties.

The current Government emanated from the first Parliament which comprised the entire Region’s ethnic races. The Regional Government’s authority is over Erbeel, Suleymaniya, and Duhok. Erbil is the Region’s capital. The Government has 27 ministries. Kurdistan Region (Erbil, Sulaimaniyah. Duhok) borders on Turkey from the north, Syria from the west and Iran from the east.

The strategy implemented in the Region is focused on the following:

• Development of the private sector
• Direct foreign investment
• Improvement of agricultural production
• Development of professional training, inclusive of English language
• Initiation of a grant program for small projects
• Renovation of the banking system
• Utilization of information and communication technology for the execution governmental work and projects.
• Expansion of tourism industry
• Training on English language.

Erbil Governorate

Erbil is an ancient city, and it is the capital of the Kurdistan Region. It is located on a plain area with a series of hills from East. Erbil city population is nearly 973680. The ethnic composition is: 93% Kurds, 4% Turkmen, and Assyrian 2%, others 1 %. Erbil City Center is located on (44. 0072) Eastern and (36.1906) Northern. The area is about (14471) km2 and (390 m) altitude. There is an ancient citadel in the city, which goes back to 6000 years ago.

In Erbil, summers are hot and dry and winters are cold and rainy. Major economical activities are agriculture and animal husbandry.


Duhok Governorate

By the order of the Ottomans, Duhok city was established in 1887. Today, nearly 250,000 people live in this city. The ethnic composition is: 95.7% Kurds, 2.8% Assyrians, 1.5% Cheldans. The city center is located on (36.864) Eastern and (42.997) Northern. The area is about (10715) km2 with altitude of (583 m). Much of the terrain is mountainous. There is a dam in the north of the city center, which was used for irrigation. But later became a source of potable water. The important resorts in Duhok are: Zawita, Saratoka, Sarsang, Solav, Shendokh, and Eneshki cave. The archeological locations in Duhok belong to the Assyrian contemporary.

 

Sulaimaniyah Governorate

Sulaimaniyah city was established in the late 18th century. There are nearly 744,023 people inhabited in this city, and almost the entire population is Kurdish. The city is located on (45.4404) Eastern and (35.5617) Northern. The area is about (13368) km2 with altitude of (890m). Sulaimaniyah is a mountainous district. It is cold and snowy in winter, while summer is relatively warm. Sharazur is a famous plain in Sulaimaniyah, which was known as (Zamo) in Acadian Contemporary. Major activities are agriculture, animal husbandry, and commerce.

Sulaimaniyah city considers as one of the best and developed cities in KRG and became a tradeshows ground this is motivated IACCI to choose Sulaimaniyah for holding its third DBX International trade show.
